Do we Still Need to Talk About Femtech | Slush 2021
Episode details
Episode description
Femtech is an umbrella term for all technology that caters to female health. By doing so, it targets over half of the world’s population, and yet, it is often portrayed as a niche category – a subsection under health tech. Medical research has historically been biased against women. There are five times as many papers on ResearchGate about erectile dysfunction – a condition affecting 19% of men – than on premenstrual syndrome, which affects 90% of women. Is femtech a useful term to shed light on an underdeveloped area of research and an untapped market, or does it further problematize female health by separating it to its own category? Deepali Nangia and Pauliina Martikainen are both seasoned investors in the field, Thérèse Mannheimer is Founder of a femtech company and Sarah Nöckel an investor known for her blog Femstreet. What do they think?
