WATCH: Impeachment articles ‘overwhelmingly supported’ by evidence, Nadler says – First impeachment
Episode details
Episode description
Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Rep. Jerry Nadler, a House manager, argued before the U.S. Senate on Jan. 23 that the articles of impeachment are “overwhelmingly supported by the evidence amassed by the House.” On the second day of arguments against President Donald Trump during the Senate impeachment trial, House Democrats outlined the evidence for the first article of impeachment — abuse of power. “No president has ever used his office to compel a foreign nation to help him cheat in our elections. Prior presidents would be shocked to the core by such conduct, and rightly so,” Nadler said. The White House will give its defense after the House managers have been allowed 24 hours over the course of three days to present their case. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and removed from office, or acquitted.
