Episode description

Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Rep. Adam Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chair, said Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, was a "skilled dealmaker" who, "in trying to satisfy a directive from the President, found himself increasingly embroiled in an effort to press the new Ukrainian President that deviated sharply from the norm, in terms of both policy and process." Schiff spoke ahead of testimony from Sondland on Nov. 20, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Other government officials have testified that Sondland helped push Ukraine to investigate the 2016 elections, the Ukrainian company Burisma and the Biden family. In a July 25 call that has become the focus of the impeachment inquiry, Trump asked Zelensky to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
