Episode description

Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., argued for the impeachment of President Donald Trump in a hearing on Jan. 13. Democrats are pursuing a quick second impeachment a week after Trump gave a speech they say incited insurrection. On Jan. 6, while Congress was in the process of counting electoral votes and certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s win, a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol, clashed with police, and forced lawmakers to pause their sessions and evacuate to safety. Hoyer said impeaching the president would help uphold the Constitution and maintain the Republic. He urged Republicans and Democrats to take a stand and impeach the president in order to hold him accountable for his actions. “This vote isn’t about timing, it is about principle and fidelity to our Constitution,” he said. Hoyer was the last Democrat to speak before the resolution to impeach Trump went to a vote.
