Episode description

Trump's first impeachment - 2020 White House officials and President Donald Trump’s associates offered to set up a meeting between Trump and Ukraine’s president in exchange for an investigation into the Bidens, Rep. Adam Schiff argued during the Senate impeachment trial. “Everyone was in the loop,” Schiff said, referring to comments made by the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland. As evidence, Schiff presented a series of text messages and WhatsApp conversations between White House and Ukrainian officials. House managers, who are acting as prosecutors in the trial, began presenting arguments on Jan. 22. The White House will give its defense after the House managers have been allowed 24 hours over the course of three days to present their case. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and removed from office, or acquitted.
