Trump's first impeachment - 2020 The U.S. Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump of both articles of impeachment—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The votes fell almost entirely along party lines. Only Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, crossed party lines to vote in favor of convicting Trump on the abuse of power charge. After the Senate voted last week to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal was all but assured. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
