Episode description
Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said the facts of the impeachment case against President Trump are not in dispute, and recognized that even some Republicans have admitted Trump was wrong to ask Ukraine to investigate his political opponents. He said there is “no greater subversion” to democracy than foreign interference in elections, calling it a threat to our democracy. “The president sought to cheat the American people out of a free and fair election,” said Schumer, adding that if this is not impeachable, nothing is. Schumer advised that the Senate convict President Trump and remove him from office. Senators weighed in Feb. 5 on whether they planned to vote to remove President Donald Trump from office later that same day. After the Senate voted last week to bar new witness testimony and subpoenas for documents, Trump’s acquittal has seemed all but assured. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
