WATCH: Schiff and Dershowitz debate whether abuse of power is impeachable | Trump impeachment trial
Episode details
Episode description
Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Alan Dershowitz, a member of President Donald Trump’s defense team, argued that abuse of power is not an impeachable offense and said legal scholars who argue otherwise “are influenced by their own bias.” Rep. Adam Schiff, the head House manager, countered those arguments, playing a video clip of Republicans’ own witness, law professor Jonathan Turley, saying abuse of power can be impeachable. The debate came as senators had their first chance to ask questions of the House managers and Trump’s legal team on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The questions come ahead of a vote on whether to bring forward witnesses and documents as part of the Senate trial. The senate must now decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office.
