WATCH: McConnell speaks after Senate acquits Trump | Trump’s first impeachment
Episode details
Episode description
Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Speaking shortly after the U.S. Senate voted to acquit President Donald Trump of two articles of impeachment, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters that the impeachment process initiated by House Democrats was “the most partisan of exercises.” The Senate declared Trump “not guilty” on two charges--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Only Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, broke from his party to vote “guilty” on the abuse of power charge. McConnell defended his caucus’ decision not to call witnesses in the trial and said he hoped the Senate could now move on from impeachment to address other issues.
