Episode description

Trump's first impeachment - 2020 Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., responding to the arguments from President Donald Trump's legal team, said that it is actually simple to call witnesses to the Senate trial. "Some things are just as simple as they appear. A trial without witnesses is simply not a trial. You can call it something else, but it is not a trial," Schiff said. "There is a storm blowing through this Capitol," said Schiff, who then quoted Thomas Jefferson that a fair trial is like an anchor. "Remove that anchor and we are adrift," Schiff said. After days of arguments posed by the House managers and Trump’s legal team, followed by questions posed by senators, the lawmakers debate and vote on whether they wish to subpoena new witnesses and documents on Friday, Jan. 31. Then the Senate must decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
