Türkiye’s Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said economic integration between Türkiye and the European Union has reached a level that should be fully reflected in Europe’s future industrial policies. Speaking after the High-Level EU-Türkiye Trade Dialogue in Brussels, Bolat highlighted more than 30 years of the EU-Türkiye Customs Union and over six decades of broader economic relations. “Türkiye is not just a trading partner for the EU.” He described Türkiye as a “strong, indispensable part of the European production ecosystem and value chains,” pointing in particular to the automotive sector and deeply integrated supply chains. Bolat said annual EU-Türkiye trade stands at around €205 billion according to Türkiye’s figures, while total trade over the last five years has reached around €900 billion. He also highlighted investment ties, saying EU companies have more than €200 billion invested in Türkiye, while Turkish companies hold around €40 billion in investments across EU Member States. Bolat then delivered a clear message to Brussels. “Türkiye therefore should be fully integrated into the EU’s new industrial strategies rather than being excluded.” He said cooperation is already expanding into CBAM, digital trade, e-commerce, machinery regulation, public procurement and the green and digital transitions. Bolat argued that Türkiye and the EU now have the capacity to strengthen resilient supply chains, develop the circular economy and deepen economic integration through the Customs Union. #eudebates #OmerBolat #Türkiye #Trade
