Descrierea episodului
In plenty of cancer stories, the scariest part isn’t always the diagnosis; it’s the treatment. After a phone call with a friend whose metastatic cancer returned, immune engineer Dr. Blaise Kimmel explores why today’s best tools can still feel like “controlled poison,” and why that reality makes care inaccessible for so many patients. He suggests a new approach: “encrypting” immune system messages so they activate only at the tumor site, teaching immune cells to eliminate cancer while protecting healthy tissue and quality of life. Dr. Blaise Kimmel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His work focuses on developing “smart” immunotherapies and medicines for cancer and rare diseases. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
