Excel’s new interactive canvas lets users create app-like dashboards by describing what they want to Copilot. The dashboards support dropdowns, sliders, clickable KPI cards, chart filters and transaction drilldowns, while automatically updating when workbook data changes or new rows are added. The examples demonstrate an executive sales dashboard tracking revenue, profit and performance trends, plus a management report comparing actuals against budget across multiple sheets, highlighting variances and explaining their drivers.
The third example turns a financial model for a proposed store into an interactive scenario tool, letting management switch between downside, base and upside assumptions or adjust sliders to see the effects on profitability, cash flow and payback. Although the canvas makes analysis easier to present and explore, its calculations and selected data ranges are difficult to audit, and design changes require further prompts rather than direct editing. The text states that the feature is available to Microsoft Insiders, so access may still be limited.
