Quantum Computing Lecture Series: Mark Koch “Quantum-Classical Programming in Guppy and Brat”
Om afsnittet
Beskrivelse af afsnittet
In this lecture, Mark Koch (Research Scientist at Quantinuum & PhD researcher at the University of Oxford) explores one of the key challenges in practical quantum computing: how classical and quantum computation work together across different time scales. He introduces two quantum programming languages, Brat and Guppy, each designed to support different forms of hybrid quantum-classical computation. While Brat focuses on staged computation and strong type guarantees, Guppy enables expressive real-time classical control embedded in Python. The lecture also presents the shared compiler infrastructure behind both languages, including Quantinuum’s HUGR intermediate representation, and discusses how modern compiler design enables optimisation, correctness and scalable quantum software development. Hosted by the Copenhagen Programming Languages Seminar (COPLAS) and shared as part of DIREC’s Quantum Computing Lecture Series. This lecture is hosted by COPLAS/HQP, sponsored by DIREC and DIKU. The lecture was recorded and is shared for public access.
