24hrs Inside the Fund Bringing Fusion, Drones & Autonomous Aircraft to New Mexico

In this episode, I go behind the scenes with Adam Grosser, Ally Warson, Brian Adams, David Ellmann and the team at UP.Partners to see what they’re building in New Mexico through UP.Abundance. UP.Abundance is their New Mexico-focused fund, investing in technology companies and helping them build and expand in the state. New Mexico holds the second largest sovereign wealth fund in the US, with $75 billion AUM, and $2 billion is being allocated across venture funds investing in companies that build or expand there. I flew across New Mexico with the team and spent the day inside three UP.Abundance portfolio companies, Pacific Fusion, Rainmaker and Reliable Robotics. Across fusion energy, cloud seeding and autonomous aircraft, we got to see what it actually takes to build companies that need land, infrastructure and significant capital to scale. Inside this episode: - Flying across New Mexico with the UP.Partners team - Pacific Fusion breaking ground on its $1 billion fusion R&D facility in Albuquerque - How Pacific Fusion plans to prove fusion can produce more energy than it consumes - Rainmaker using drones and atmospheric data to make cloud seeding measurable - Why Rainmaker raised $30 million to build a modern approach to weather modification - Reliable Robotics retrofitting existing aircraft for autonomous flight - Why Reliable Robotics is pursuing FAA certification without relying on onboard AI - How UP.Abundance is investing in companies and helping them expand into New Mexico - Why New Mexico is putting billions of dollars behind attracting startups to the state Can New Mexico actually convince founders to build there instead of Silicon Valley?
